- Lesson Title: The Whole Truth
- Introduction: Students can enhance their writing skills by using three creative picture prompt activities.
- Content Area and Grade or Age Level of Students: Grades 4 thought 8.
- Objectives: The objective of this assignment is for student to examine the famous painting American Gothic by Grant Wood. The purpose is to see how other students in the class interpret the task proposed: Why is the woman looking at her husband? His name is George. Her name is Charlotte. Make sure your response has a modern twist.
- Standards Addressed:
- Relative Advantage: The relative advantage is that student will think of this painting in different ways while using three really robust Web 2.0 tools.
- Timeline: Six weeks.
- Materials: A computer and connection to the Internet.
- Grouping Strategies: The computer lab has 25 computers. Each student will use their own computer. Students may exchange ideas and help each other but their work must be original.
- Learning Activities:
- Students will log into Primary Pad. This site will be used as a brainstorming warm up. Students will write as many ideas as they can for seven minutes.
- Students will log into Padlet and will post their four best ideas.
- Students will write a short story about The Whole Truth using a word processing tool.
- Student will create one slide using PowerPoint or another presentation tool with the title, "The Whole Truth" on one line and, "As Told By NAME" on the next line.
- Students will use Voicethread.com to locate the template
- Students will upload their title slide/
- Students will recite their story with the American Gothic image in the background.
- Assessment: Students will be assessed as they complete each part of the assignment using each tool. Creativity should be encourages.
- Adaptations for Learners with Special Needs: Learners will receive assistance as needed and other accommodations based upon the IEP will be implemented.
